Manure is both a valuable resource and a mitigation problem for animal production businesses. Manure application strategies can be established either for obtaining maximum nutrient efficiency or to maximize application rates while minimizing environmental impact. With either option, having an understanding of manure nutrient content is necessary for developing and executing an appropriate management plan. Because of large differences in manure storage and handling systems, “book” values are of little value and testing for nutrient content is necessary.
